[UPDATE] That Zelda Switch 2 Leak Now Has Box Photos and an Ocarina of Time Tie-In

Quick reminder before you get excited: none of this is official. Nintendo hasn't announced a thing. What's actually happened is that the Zelda-themed Switch 2 we flagged as a rumour earlier this month has resurfaced with more behind it, and it's worth weighing rather than swallowing whole.

What's new this time

Photos are now circulating of what look like retail boxes for a Zelda-themed Switch 2 console and a matching Pro Controller, both tied to the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake and the franchise's 40th anniversary. That's a step up from the earlier chatter, which was mostly a described-but-not-shown Triforce dock. Boxes you can photograph are harder to hand-wave.

How much to trust it

The name attached matters here. Brazilian journalist Necro Felipe Lima, editor-in-chief of Universo Nintendo, says he was shown both products previously and reckons the new images match exactly what he saw. That's a named person with a real outlet putting their credibility on it, which is a cut above the usual anonymous datamine. It is still not the same as Nintendo confirming anything, and product boxes can be mocked up.

So: more credible than it was a fortnight ago, still firmly a rumour. An Ocarina of Time remake is genuinely on the way this year, and a 40th-anniversary special-edition console to sell alongside it is exactly the sort of thing Nintendo does. If it's real, expect Nintendo to reveal it on its own terms and its own schedule, probably at whatever it does next, not via a leaked box shot. Treat the pictures as a strong hint, not a confirmation.
