This one is unconfirmed, so read it as a rumour, not a fact. The claim: in GTA 6, sprinting moves from tapping X (or A on Xbox) to a single click of the left stick, L3. It comes from the YouTuber MikeShowSha, who says he was invited to see the PS5 game running ahead of last week's Extended Look and reported the L3 input in a follow-up Q&A. Rockstar has said nothing official about the control layout, so nothing here is locked.
What's actually being claimed
The short version: no more mashing. For 25 years, keeping a sprint going in a GTA game has meant hammering one button until your thumb gives out. If MikeShowSha's account holds up, you'll press L3 once and keep running. That's it. On paper it's the kind of quiet quality-of-life change you stop noticing after ten minutes, which is usually the sign of a good one.
Why some people aren't sold
Predictably, a chunk of players would rather it stayed as it was. Two gripes come up most. One is habit: 25 years of thumb memory doesn't rewrite itself overnight. The other is stick drift, the worry being that mapping sprint to a stick click leans harder on a part of the controller that already wears out. Worth saying plainly: there's no evidence connecting an L3 sprint to drift. It's a fear, not a finding.
How much to trust it
MikeShowSha is a known GTA-focused creator, not a random forum post, which puts this a notch above the usual leak. But it's still one person's account of a controlled demo, and demos change. Until Rockstar publishes a control scheme, treat the L3 sprint as likely-but-not-official. If you hate it, there's a decent chance it'll be remappable anyway, the way most modern games are.
We'll update this if Rockstar confirms the layout either way.
