This one's a rumour, so hold it loosely: there's no Sony announcement, no confirmed date, nothing on the PlayStation Blog. What there is comes from insider Nash Weedle, who claims the next State of Play is set for September 3.
Per ComicBook, Weedle describes it as a "general" State of Play, a broad showcase rather than a single-game deep dive. The same claim suggests Marvel's Wolverine gets its own dedicated stream separately, so if you're waiting on Insomniac's clawed one, this reportedly wouldn't be the show for it.
How much to trust it
Worth being straight about the source. Weedle has a decent track record, but it's built mostly on Nintendo leaks, not PlayStation, so this is a little outside their usual lane. That doesn't make it wrong, it just means the confidence bar should sit lower than it would for a Sony-specialist leaker.
Timing-wise it's at least plausible. Sony's run September shows before, and early September lines up with the post-Gamescom lull when a State of Play tends to slot in nicely. If it's real, we'd expect Sony to confirm a day or two ahead. Until then, September 3 is a date on a leaker's word, nothing firmer.
