Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches today, Thursday 27 August, and it's on Xbox Game Pass from minute one across console, PC and Ultimate. It unlocks globally at 4pm UK time, so there's no staggered rollout to wait through.
What's changed
If you came to the earlier games for tense, ratty stealth, know that this one leans the other way. Sophia can parry and counter, with finishing moves, which is a real shift away from creep-and-hide toward standing your ground. Whether that's what you wanted from a Plague Tale is a fair question, but the studio isn't hiding the pivot.
The puzzle side, by most accounts, is the strong bit. Reviewers have singled out the light manipulation, carried over from the first game and pushed further into prismatic and geometry puzzles. There's also a running thread built on the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur that reviewers have called the narrative high point, used as a dark mirror for Sophia's own story rather than set dressing.
Early read
Reviews so far are positive rather than ecstatic, which feels about right for a series making a genre swerve. It's the kind of game Game Pass is genuinely good for: you can start it tonight for no extra outlay and decide within an hour whether the new combat is your thing. We flagged the day-one Game Pass deal earlier this week, and it's held.
If you're going in blind, the combat's the part that'll trip you up first. We've put together a few starter tips for that.
