Ten years on, Geralt's biggest outing gets the full remaster treatment, and it's live today, September 29, on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, Switch 2 and PC. The headline that matters most: if you own the base game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Steam, Epic or GOG, the upgrade is free. Both expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are bundled in too, and if you never bought them, you get them free as well.
What's actually changed
This is more than a resolution bump. CD Projekt Red has rebuilt the combat with new finisher animations and reworked sign effects, reworked climbing and mantling so traversal feels less like fighting the controls, and added a new skill tree that leans closer to Cyberpunk 2077's layout. There's a looting rework, new quest tracking, an expanded photo mode, and transmogrification so you can wear the armour you like while keeping the stats you need.
The Switch 2 angle
It's also the game's Switch 2 debut, with some platform-specific features on top, plus cross-platform mod support, which is the sort of thing that keeps a ten-year-old RPG alive for another decade.
If you bounced off Witcher 3 back in 2015 because the combat felt stiff and the map felt like homework, this is the version to try the argument again on. And if you loved it, well, you've now got an excuse to lose another eighty hours to Gwent. It's free. Go on.
