It's official: Pokémon Unite is shutting down. The Pokémon Company and developer TiMi Studio Group have confirmed the free-to-play MOBA will go offline for good on 23 March 2027, at 00:00 UTC. After that, you can't log in or play a match.
The clock has already started. As of today, 27 October, sales of Aeos gems, the game's paid currency, have stopped, and Unite Club memberships are no longer being sold or auto-renewed. You keep whatever gems and membership time you've already banked until the lights go out, but there's no topping up now.
There's a send-off planned. An update on 12 November adds a special event plus a new "library" feature that hands out items, including Unite licenses and Holowear that have passed through the game over the years. One catch worth flagging: you have to download the library data before the 23 March shutdown to keep viewing any of it afterwards, and that data generally doesn't transfer between devices.
Competitive players get one last run too. The Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo event is still happening, with qualifiers kicking off on 5 December.
No reason was given for pulling the plug, which is the usual way of these things. Unite launched on Switch in July 2021 and hit mobile that September, so it's had a solid five-year run. If you've still got gems sitting in the bank, now's the time to spend them, because they're worth nothing on 24 March.
