Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is out today, and the reviews are the kind you rarely see. It's currently sitting as the highest-rated game of 2026, with Game Informer handing it a 9.5 and several outlets going full marks.
Why the scores
The praise keeps landing on the same things: sharper pacing than the original, a cast people actually care about, and combat reviewers describe as one of the genre's best. The remake trims the slow-burn stretches that tested patience in the first game, and Estelle Bright comes out of it as one of the more likeable RPG leads going.
One honest caveat before you buy: 2nd Chapter is tougher than 1st Chapter, and it assumes you understand the mechanics. This is a sequel, and it plays like one. If you skipped the first game you'll spend a while catching up, and you'll want to.

It's on PS5, Switch 2, Switch and PC. If you've been putting off the Trails series because there's a lot of it, a remake this well-liked is about as good a reason to start as you'll get. Just start with 1st Chapter, not this one.
