Facepunch dropped the Power Trip update on August 6, and with it came the usual forced wipe, so pour one out for your base. What you get in return is genuinely new: Player Maintained Monuments, which stitch a big chunk of the map into a single island-wide electrical grid that players have to actually keep running.

How the grid works

The short version: monuments you already know, the Power Plant, Water Treatment, the Oil Rigs, Airfield, the roadside pylons, now have functional roles in one shared network. You feed Heavy Electric Fuses into panels to bring sections of the grid back online, and as more fuses stay live, the server climbs through four power phases. Higher phases switch on more monument functions across the map. So the lights being on isn't a given anymore. Somebody has to have done the work.

That's a properly interesting design wrinkle for a game whose whole thing is that nobody can be trusted. A shared power grid on a server full of people who will happily raid you for a stack of scrap? Should be chaos, in the good way.

The rest of the patch

There's a new Satellite Crash event, crude oil production over at Dome, a working car lift at Oxum's Gas Station, and food freezers in the Supermarket, plus the usual pile of balance and quality-of-life tweaks. Two paid extras also landed, the Bar Games Pack and a Stone Sculpture, if you're into cosmetics.

The wipe stings, it always does. But this is the kind of update that changes how a server plays rather than just adding another gun, and those are the ones worth logging back in for.
