Quick flag before we get ahead of ourselves: this is unconfirmed. There's no official reveal yet, only a database entry and a wink from the developer. But it's a strong wink.

A SteamDB listing for PixelJunk Monsters 3 appeared early, complete with official-looking artwork, spotted by the reliable leak-tracker Wario64. SteamDB reads the public parts of Steam's back end, so a playtest build showing up there usually means a game is close to being announced rather than years off. That's the whole basis for the rumour, so weigh it accordingly.

Why it looks real

The tell is what happened next. Q-Games, the studio behind the PixelJunk series, confirmed it's part of the Future Games Show and teased "a very special announcement." The show runs today, 26 August, at 6pm BST as part of Gamescom. A leaked database page plus a developer teasing an announcement on the same day is about as close to confirmed as a rumour gets without actually being confirmed.

PixelJunk Monsters is a tower-defence series with a genuine following, and a third one would be a nice, unfussy thing to see turn up amid all the AAA noise this week. Still: no trailer, no release date, no platforms beyond the Steam listing. If it's real, we'll know in a few hours. If the Future Games Show comes and goes with nothing, this was a listing that got out early and meant less than it looked. We'll update once the show's actually aired.
