Straight up, before anything else: this is a rumour from a single source, and none of it is confirmed by Nintendo. Treat it that way. The claim, from YouTuber BeatEmUps, is that a Nintendo Direct is locked in for July, headlined by Metroid Prime 4, a few GameCube games shadow-dropping onto Switch 2, and a tease for a 2026 Animal Crossing.
Why it's plausible
Nintendo does tend to run a Direct around this time of year, and a chunk of the wider 2026 leak slate has quietly started coming true. Rhythm Heaven Groove, one of the leaked titles, actually shipped on July 2. When the boring predictions land, the exciting ones get a little more oxygen.
Why to keep the lid on
Because it's one person's word. BeatEmUps is a well-known Switch YouTuber, not a reporter with documents, and "a Direct is coming this month" is close to the safest guess in games media. Nintendo runs enough of them that you'll eventually be right. Metroid Prime 4 turning up isn't a wild swing either. None of that makes the claim wrong. It just means the juicy specifics, the GameCube drops and the Animal Crossing tease, are exactly the kind of detail that gets invented.
What we'd actually watch for
Nintendo announces Directs on its own channels, usually a day or two out. If a real one shows up there, believe that. Until then this is a plausible guess dressed as a scoop. We'll be delighted to be wrong if Prime 4 gets a date. We're just not printing it as fact on a YouTuber's say-so.
