Mojang used Minecraft Live to drop something genuinely new: The Sift, a fourth dimension and the first one added since the End back in 2011. That's roughly 14 years of just the Overworld, the Nether and the End, so for a game this size it's a proper event.
What The Sift looks like
It leans hard into neon blue and pink, with Mojang calling it vibrant and "teeming with souls". Its early mascot is the Blub, a pale blue thing that reads somewhere between a rabbit and a ghost. Whether it's friendly or after your dinner, we'll find out.
The catch: you play it in Dungeons 2 first
Here's the wrinkle. The Sift shows up first in the spin-off Minecraft Dungeons 2, out September 29, and doesn't reach the main game (Java and Bedrock) until 2027. So the headline dimension is a 2027 job for most players. Fair warning before you get too attached to the idea of building a base there this weekend.
Also on the way
The next main-game drop adds Ice Caves and a Frozen Zombie variant, which is the more immediate thing to look forward to if Dungeons isn't your scene. Not a bad haul for one broadcast.
