If you want something properly nasty for spooky season, this one is a week out. Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival lands on October 8 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2, and it has the detail that matters to long-time fans: Doug Bradley is back voicing Pinhead, the role he originated in the films.
What it is
It is a single-player, first-person survival horror with an original story. You play Aidan, trying to drag your girlfriend back out of the Labyrinth, the Hellraiser series' maze of very bad ideas. Rather than leave you defenceless, the game hands Aidan guns and a set of supernatural tricks: pyrokinesis, telekinesis, and something called Hell Chains for pulling enemies apart. So it leans action-horror, not pure hide-and-survive.
Whether that mix works is the open question. Giving the player this much firepower in a Hellraiser game is a choice. It could keep the pace up, or it could sand off the dread that makes the licence worth adapting in the first place. We find out next week.
Editions and pre-orders
The Standard Edition is $39.99, with a $49.99 Deluxe on top. Pre-ordering any version throws in two cosmetic skins, a Labyrinth Pistol skin and a Martyr Sawblade skin. Cosmetics only, so no sleep lost if you skip them.
Reasonably priced for a horror game with a real licence behind it. Worth a look on the 8th if a first-person Hellraiser is the kind of bad idea you are into.
