Helldivers 2's next free update, Face the Unknown, goes live tomorrow, August 12. Arrowhead has kept the details deliberately vague. The teaser points at first-time landings on Illuminate planets, and the community reckons a new subfaction is coming, but none of that is confirmed, so treat the specifics as a rumour until the patch actually drops. We wrote up what little is known here.

What you can do today is show up prepared. A few things worth sorting before the servers light up.

Don't panic-spend

The temptation before a big update is to dump every Super Credit, Medal and Sample you've hoarded. Don't. If there's a new Warbond or store rotation tomorrow, you'll want that stockpile intact. Sit on your currency until you can see what it actually buys.

Cap out what you can

The level ceiling recently doubled to 300, and your banked XP came back with it. If you've been parked near the old cap, a couple of dives tonight bank real progress toward the new Ship Modules instead of evaporating into nothing.

Build for the unknown, not for a leak

Nobody outside Arrowhead knows what you'll be shooting at, so pack for flexibility over a hard counter. Something with reliable single-target punch, something for crowds, and a support weapon you actually trust when a drop goes sideways. If the Illuminate rumours pan out, you'll adapt on the fly like everyone else. Building your whole kit around an unconfirmed enemy the day before is how you end up respeccing at midnight.

Squad up early

Launch day for a mystery update means full servers and, historically, a few rough hours while everyone piles in at once. Get your group sorted tonight so you're not matchmaking into chaos tomorrow. Then go see what's out there.
