Valheim's Deep North lands with the 1.0 update, and it's the endgame biome, not a gentle victory lap. It's cold, it's mean, and it will happily punish you for wandering in under-geared. A few things worth knowing before you sail north.
Gear up before you go
This is the last biome for a reason. Don't treat the Deep North like a shortcut. Work through the biomes you've got access to first and go in with your strongest armour and food setup. Iron Gate has added three new armour tiers and a set of Nord weapons in 1.0, plus the Frostfire Crossbow, so there's fresh kit to chase once you're there. Cold management matters more than usual here, so pack frost resistance and warm food and don't skimp on it.
Know what's trying to kill you
Three enemy types to watch for. Gammeltrolls are ancient trolls warped by the frozen ground, and they lob tree trunks at you, so break line of sight and use cover rather than trying to tank the throws. Elakingar are burrowing, rodent-like things that cluster in the Winding Tunnel dungeons, so expect to fight in tight spaces down there. And there are Viking ghosts knocking about, because of course there are.
The fun new toy
The grappling hook is the standout addition. You can latch onto the environment and either reel yourself in or swing off it. It's brilliant for crossing gaps and cliffs, but it's also a genuine escape tool when a Gammeltroll fight goes sideways. Learn to use it early, because the terrain up here is not forgiving on foot.
Short version: don't rush it, respect the cold, and keep the grappling hook on a button you can hit in a panic.
