Gamescom season is nearly on us. Opening Night Live, the Geoff Keighley showcase that fires the starting gun on the whole thing, is booked for Tuesday, August 25, with Keighley and Eefje "sjokz" Depoortere hosting. It streams free on YouTube, Twitch and Steam, and the show floor proper runs August 26 to 30 at Koelnmesse in Cologne.
Who's actually showing up
The confirmed exhibitor list is heavy: Nintendo, Xbox, Ubisoft, CD Projekt Red, Capcom, Krafton and Bandai Namco are all in. ONL itself is a two-hour reveal show, so expect the standard mix of world premieres, new trailers and the occasional shadow-drop, plus whatever Keighley has strong-armed out of publishers this year. Xbox is running its own live broadcasts across August 26 and 27 as part of its 25th-anniversary push.
Let's talk about GTA 6
Because someone always asks: don't get your hopes up for a playable GTA 6 at Gamescom. German trade press has called a hands-on build "extremely unlikely," and honestly, that tracks. If GTA 6 shows up at all, it'll be a trailer or a passing third-party mention, not you holding a controller. The game launches November 19, weeks after the show, and Rockstar has never needed a convention floor to sell it.
So set expectations at the right level. Gamescom is where you find out about the games you weren't already thinking about. The ones you're already counting down to will do their own thing, on their own schedule.
