If you pre-ordered the Ultimate edition, EA Sports FC 27 opens its doors today. The seven-day early access starts on PC at 23:00 UTC on September 17, with consoles following at midnight local time on the 18th. Everyone else gets the full release on September 24.
What's actually new
EA's headline changes this year are on the pitch rather than in the menus. Movement is meant to be more fluid and less on-rails, corners are now dynamic instead of the old canned routine, attackers are supposed to read space better, and defending has been reworked around what EA calls player-focused control for competitive play.
How much of that you'll feel in the first hour is the open question. FC does this every year: a list of pitch improvements that sound great in a trailer and take a fortnight of matches to actually judge. The defending overhaul is the one to watch, because player-focused defending has swung between "finally" and "unplayable" across past entries.
The bit to keep an eye on
Early access is also when Ultimate Team opens, which means the packs open too. Enjoy the new football, but go in clear-eyed about where FC makes its money. FC 27 is out on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch 2 and Switch.
