Evercade keeps quietly doing the thing where it puts proper old games on physical cartridges you actually own, and the next one's a big name. The Doom Collection bundles the original Doom, Doom II, six official mission packs and a set of Deathmatch levels onto a single cartridge, out October 30 for a suggested 24.99 pounds / $29.99 / 29.99 euros. Pre-orders are already open.

Cartridge number 11, in Doom red

It slots into Evercade's blue home-computer range as cartridge number 11, and Blaze has done it in a fittingly hellish red rather than the usual blue. For the money you're getting the core Doom saga on one card - no launcher, no account, no small print about a licence that might change later. That's rather the whole point of Evercade.

The collector's version

If a cartridge isn't enough, Blaze also announced a Limited Edition Evercade Nexus Doom Edition: a Doom-themed handheld, a big-box version of the cartridge, a hard carry case, a comic, a poster and a numbered certificate, for 199.99 pounds / $249.99 / 239.99 euros. It's capped at 3,000 units worldwide and sold only through Funstock, so it'll be a scramble. The plain cartridge is the sensible buy; the Nexus edition is for the shelf you dust twice a year and love anyway.
