The first slice of August's Xbox Game Pass lineup is here, and it's on the quiet side. Six confirmed games so far, which reads as slim until you remember Microsoft nearly always drops these in waves and saves a chunk for mid-month. So don't read the short list as the whole month.
The ones worth flagging
Two stand out. Beast of Reincarnation, the post-apocalyptic action RPG from Game Freak, arrives day one on Series X|S, PC and cloud, and a Game Freak game outside the Pokemon machine is always at least interesting. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy also lands day one across the same platforms, so if you've been meaning to get into that grim, rat-swarmed series, here's the no-extra-cost way in.
Rounding out the confirmed batch are smaller day-one drops, including Monsters Are Coming!, a tower-survivor roguelite launching August 6, and a few others like Grave Seasons. Nothing system-selling, but a couple of these are exactly the sort of thing you'd never buy at full price and end up sinking a weekend into.
The honest bit
Two day-one launches plus some indies is a perfectly fine start to a month, not a blockbuster one. Given how this year's gone for Xbox, a steady drip of day-one games is arguably the pitch that still holds up. Purexbox and Stevivor both note the second wave typically lands later in the month, so if this batch leaves you cold, it's worth checking back before you decide August was a dud. And keep an eye on the removals list, because that's where the sting usually is.
