Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek, went live on August 11 in North America and the 12th in Europe. Here's the bit people miss: the patch and the season are on different clocks. The content is open now, but Midnight Season 2 doesn't switch on until August 18/19. That week-long gap is deliberate, and it's the most useful week you'll get all tier if you spend it right.

1. Do Chapter 1 of the campaign first

Everything else keys off this. Chapter 1 starts from Orweyna in Silvermoon with the quest Hagar's Invitation, and finishing it unlocks the quest that takes you out to Coiled Isle, the new outdoor zone. No Chapter 1, no zone. Get it out of the way early.

2. Don't panic about the 25% number

Yes, the patch cranks player health and enemy damage up by 25% at max level. It reads scary in the notes. It's a global change applied across the board, not a nerf aimed at you specifically, so the relative maths mostly holds. Play as normal and recalibrate on feel.

3. Farm Coiled Isle and Delves for a baseline

Once the zone's open, its outdoor activities and Delves are your cheapest route to a starting item level before the endgame doors open. This is the week to build a floor so you're not scrambling on day one of the season.

4. Alts get free gear just for showing up

The main campaign hands out non-upgradeable gear to fresh characters for basically existing in the zone. It's exactly the kind of charity an undergeared alt wants. Drag them through the story now while it's quiet.

5. Know what's waiting on the 18th

Season 2 brings the eight-boss Venomous Abyss raid, the Altar of Fangs dungeon, and a full Mythic+ pool. Once your Coiled Isle baseline is set, the path up is the usual one: Heroic dungeons, then Mythic, then M+ and raid as your gear allows. Icy Veins' survival guide is worth a read for the finer detail.
