World of Warcraft's Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek, is live as of today's maintenance. It's the second chapter of the Midnight expansion, and the headline for anyone at max level isn't the new zone or the raid. It's the tuning: Blizzard's patch notes confirm player health and creature damage are both up 25% at max level.
That's a deliberate lever, not a nerf or a buff. Fights last longer and hit harder in the same breath, which changes how squishier specs feel and gives healers more to actually do. Whether it lands as "more tactical" or "more of a slog" is the thing to watch over the first fortnight.
What's actually new
The Coiled Isle is the new zone, a landmass sitting off the east coast of Zul'Aman. On it you get Lairs, which are instanced world bosses that scale in difficulty, plus Curse Surges that spawn rare elites, Delves, and a custom talent tree tied to exploring the place.
The raid is Venomous Abyss, eight bosses deep, ending with Ula'tek himself. There's also a new three-boss dungeon, Altar of Fangs, available up to Mythic 0 at launch before it joins the Mythic+ rotation in Season 2.
Mark your calendar for the 18th
Season 2 kicks off on August 18, a week after the patch. That's when the Mythic+ rotation shuffles, the new PvP season starts, and Bountiful Delves come online. So today is the story and lore run; next Tuesday is when the grind proper resets. If you've been sitting on vault currency, you know what to do.
