Valheim is finally calling it. Iron Gate and Coffee Stain confirmed at the PC Gaming Show that the Viking survival game exits Early Access on September 9, after five and a half years, and the 1.0 build brings the Deep North, the last biome on the map.

The Deep North

Iron Gate describes it as "a frozen landscape that deceives on arrival," quiet snowfields and icy mesas that turn out to be one of the nastiest places in the game. Expect abandoned villages, new enemies including the Gammeltrolls, and underground stretches home to the Elakingar. If you bounced off Valheim waiting for a proper endgame, this is the reason to come back.

New platforms, one world

1.0 is also the game's first day on PS5 and Switch 2, joining the existing PC, Mac, Linux and Xbox versions, and it ships with crossplay across all of them. So the friend on Switch 2 and the friend on PC can build the same longhouse, which is the whole point of a game like this.

Worth saying plainly, because it's rare: no live service, no battle pass, no DLC paywalls. Iron Gate has held that line the entire Early Access run, and 1.0 doesn't break it. You buy the game, you get the game.

Deep North is a big, cold full stop on a project that could easily have drifted for another two years. Next Wednesday it's done.
