[UPDATE] The Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Direct Aired, and September 17 Is Locked In

We flagged this morning that Nintendo had booked a whole Direct just for one Fire Emblem game. It has now aired, roughly 20 minutes of it, and the headline is the calm one: Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is still coming to Switch 2 on 17 September.

What we now know

The setting is the Dagdan Empire, and the story hangs off a gladiatorial event, the Heroic Games, held in the capital where the winner is granted a wish. It sits in the same world as Three Houses, and it uses that same multi-route structure, following one of four leads: Cai, chasing his imprisoned father; Dietrich, hunting a stronger fight; Theodora, a queen with a homeland to serve; and Leda, a musician after revenge.

The change worth flagging for tactics players is the class system. Returning classes like Noble, Commoner, Myrmidon, Hunter and Shaman are back, but classes are now tied to specific weapon types rather than the freer setup Three Houses ran, per Kotaku. That is a meaningful shift for how you build a squad, and the kind of thing that will either delight or annoy you depending on how much you liked min-maxing everyone into an archer.

And yes, there is a fancy edition
