[UPDATE] Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Is Out, and MGS4 Is Finally Off the PS3

It's out. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 landed today on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2 and Steam - same day, same price across all of them, which is rarer than it should be.

The headline for a lot of people: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is finally playable somewhere other than a PlayStation 3. Snake's swansong spent well over a decade trapped on old hardware. Now it's here, bundled with Peace Walker in its HD form, and that alone is the reason to care.

What's in the box

Two main games - MGS4 and Peace Walker. As bonuses you get Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, the 2000 Game Boy Color entry, plus a digital soundtrack. There are also the scenario and master books, and a full restoration of MGS4's in-game Database, which is the closest thing the series has to a canon encyclopaedia.

Worth knowing before you buy

Konami has stayed quiet on the technical specifics - resolution, frame rate, how much has actually been reworked versus straight emulation. Vol. 1 took some flak on exactly that, so if you care about how these run rather than just that they exist, it's worth waiting for the first proper performance breakdowns before committing. The reviews are landing now.

Still: MGS4 off the PS3 at last. For a chunk of us, that's been a long time coming.
