CD Projekt Red has dated The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered for September 29, and the headline isn't the new visuals — it's the price. If you already own the game, the upgrade costs nothing.
Who gets it free
Anyone with The Witcher 3 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, GOG or the Epic Games Store gets the Remastered version as a free upgrade, no repurchase. People who own the original on Nintendo's older hardware can claim it on Switch 2 once it's out — and this is the first time the game has had a native Switch 2 build rather than a scaled-down port. On top of that, everyone with a base copy gets Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for free, which is a genuinely generous move given how good those two expansions are.
What's actually changing
It's a remaster, not a remake, so expect a visual and technical pass — better lighting and detail, some gameplay tweaks — rather than a rebuilt game. CDPR also gave a first look at Songs of the Past alongside the announcement.
Paid remasters of decade-old games are the norm, so a studio handing this one out to existing owners is worth calling out. If you've got a copy sitting in a library somewhere, that's a free reason to walk back into Velen at the end of the month.
