If you've drifted away from Washington, this is a decent week to wander back in. The Division 2 is marking a year since the Retaliation update with a fortnight of bonus events, and Ubisoft has pushed a hotfix to clean up the bugs that have been nagging at the current season.

The anniversary stuff

A Project Chain runs from September 8 to September 22 to mark Retaliation's first birthday. Overlapping it, Retaliation Surge is live from September 8 to September 15 and doubles the Retaliation Faction Materials you earn from every source. If you've been meaning to top up that currency, do it now rather than in a fortnight.

This all sits inside the Red Horizon season, which puts the Cleaners front and centre and has them setting up shop across the city. Red Horizon also folded Blackout into the Dark Zone rotation, with the Toxic DZ sticking around as a permanent PvE variant.

The hotfix

Servers came down on September 8 for maintenance — a roughly three-hour window — to push a fix aimed at the ongoing audio bugs and server instability. Neither is the kind of thing that ends a game, but both are the kind of thing that grinds you down, so it's good to see them getting a dedicated pass rather than being rolled into some far-off patch.

Further out, Gamescom teased crossplay, the next DLC and a first look at Season 4, with a Central Park expansion lined up for next year. That's the long game. For this week, it's double materials and quieter footsteps.
