[UPDATE] Rockstar Is Subpoenaing Microsoft and Discord to Unmask the GTA 6 Leaker

Quick recap for anyone who has been offline for a week: someone going by Cyberleek has been dripping out GTA 6 footage ahead of Rockstar's official reveal, and it has not stopped. The latest development is the interesting one, though. According to reporting from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, relayed by Forbes, Take-Two and Rockstar are now subpoenaing Microsoft and Discord to try to get the information they need to work out who Cyberleek actually is.

That is a real escalation from the DMCA takedowns we wrote about earlier in the week. Takedowns treat the symptom. A subpoena aimed at the platforms where the leaks are being hosted and discussed is Rockstar trying to find the person. The uncomfortable part for them, per the same reporting, is that Take-Two still does not know who is behind it or how the material got out in the first place.

What has actually leaked

We are now up to seven clips. The most recent one, which surfaced on August 22, follows the male protagonist robbing a couple of gas station registers, triggering a police chase, wrecking a car in slow motion, and ending the night walking into a strip club. It looks the part. It is also, by most accounts, from an older build, so treat it as a snapshot of the game at some earlier point rather than what ships on November 19.

The leaker's turn toward the grift

Here is where it gets less romantic. Whatever the early 'fighting for gamers' rights' framing suggested, Forbes reports Cyberleek is now promoting a meme coin and running paid polls on what to leak next. That is worth keeping in mind if you see the leaks dressed up as some principled stand. A watermark and a wallet address is not activism.

The timing is almost comic. Rockstar's own extended look at GTA 6 premieres on Netflix on August 27 before hitting its YouTube channel and site a few hours later. So the official material is days away regardless. If you can hold out, you will see the real thing, in the resolution Rockstar intends, without a meme coin attached. If you cannot, that is between you and your feed.

The release date, for now, is unchanged: November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
