The Modern Warfare 4 beta is live, and betas reward people who go in with a plan. Here is what is actually on the menu and how to get something lasting out of it before it closes.
Get to level 30, first
If you do one thing this weekend, do this. Reaching level 30 in the beta unlocks eight rewards that carry over to the full game, including the Dread Tiger operator skin for Reece and a Beta Forged blueprint for the Han 86 assault rifle. That is the only bit of the beta that follows you to launch, so treat the grind as the point rather than a side effect. Objective modes level you faster than deathmatch, so play Domination and Hardpoint if XP is what you are after.
What you can play
There are six 6v6 maps: Rooftops, Silkworm, Transit 213, Cachette, Lotus, and Lithium. Modes cover the classics (Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Search and Destroy) plus two new ones worth a look: Inflation, built around cash-bounty eliminations, and Hijack, a Data Spike control mode. There is also 3v3 Gunfight, a new 10v10 Gunfight variant on maps that reshuffle mid-match, and 24v24 Ground War on Imjin Farmland and Wolves Stadium.
Spend a match just moving
The new movement is the thing that will get you killed until it clicks. You can climb pipes, hang off ledges, and aim while suspended, and that changes where enemies can be. Before you worry about your loadout, play a round where you deliberately use the new traversal and learn the new sightlines it opens up. The people topping the scoreboard by launch will be the ones who internalised this in the beta.
A couple of practical notes
It is a beta build, so expect the odd bug and some balance that will not survive to launch. Report the broken stuff rather than just moaning about it, because that is literally what this weekend is for. And if you did not pre-order, do not panic: Weekend Two, from August 28 to September 1, is open to everyone and adds a campaign mission and Warzone Resurgence on the Zodiac map. That is your window.
