Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls throws four fighters, a shared gauge and a full assist system at you before you've thrown a punch. It looks like a lot because it is a lot. None of it is as scary as it first reads, though, and these five things will get you winning matches faster than grinding combos in training will.
1. Pick by the Ease of Use rating, not the character you like
The character select screen tells you how demanding each fighter is. For your first hours, lean on the friendly ones. Captain America, Ms. Marvel and Wolverine are forgiving, and Iron Man and Spider-Man aren't far behind. You can fall in love with the tricky ones later.
2. Learn assists before you learn switches
Tapping the assist calls a teammate in to cover you or extend a combo, and it's low risk. Doing a full live switch mid-combo is the flashy version, and it's where beginners drop everything. Get comfortable calling assists first. The clean L2 swap can wait until the basics feel automatic.
3. Watch the Combo Limit Gauge, not the hit counter
The hit number is ego. The Combo Limit Gauge is information: it tells you when your combo is about to run out of road, which is exactly when you want to cash out into a finisher instead of dropping it. Read the gauge and your damage goes up without a single new input.
4. Consistency beats style
A medium combo you land nine times out of ten will win you more matches than a highlight-reel route you hit once a set. The basic chains, light into light into light and so on up the buttons, each end in a special. Get those bankable first, then get fancy.
5. Build a team that covers two ranges
The tag system rewards mixing a close-range bruiser with someone who controls space. A melee brawler paired with a ranged threat means you always have an answer, whoever's in front. Assist synergy matters more here than raw character strength, so experiment with pairings before you settle.
None of this needs the lab. Boot it up, pick someone forgiving, and let the assists do half the thinking while you learn.
