Grounded 2 lands on PS5 on August 11, and with the Into the Abyss update arriving at the same time, a lot of people are about to get very small in a very dangerous back garden for the first time. It is a survival game, so it will happily let you fail without explaining why. Here are five things that make the early hours go better.
1. Build your first base at a Ranger Outpost
You want flat ground with room to spread out, and the Ranger Outposts give you exactly that. Throw down a Lean-To as soon as you can so you have somewhere to sleep and set your respawn, then sleep through the nights early on rather than fighting in the dark.
2. Craft a shield the moment you're using one-handed weapons
A shield is not optional once you move past flailing with a spear. It lets you block back-to-back hits and, more importantly, parry, which stuns bugs and opens them up. A Pebblet Spear handles the small stuff, but the shield is what keeps you alive against anything that hits back.
3. A full armour set is worth 30 extra HP
Wearing a complete set, not a mismatch, gives you a flat 30 bonus to max health. Early on that is a huge margin. Acorn shells and mite fuzz get you your first proper set, so prioritise those materials before you wander somewhere ambitious.
4. Scan everything, then upgrade the Omni-Tool
Run every new resource through the Resource Analyzer. It unlocks recipes and earns you Raw Science, which buys more recipes, so scanning is basically free progress. Put early upgrades into the Omni-Tool as well, since a better tool harvests higher-tier materials and everything good is gated behind those.
5. Stay on top of water, food and storage
Hit dew-tipped grass stalks to drink on the move, and set up Dew Collectors and Water Containers near leaves so your base gathers water while you are out. Keep snacking to hold off hunger, and build storage chests early, resources do not spoil, so there is no reason to leave loot rotting in the field.
One last thing for launch week: with Into the Abyss opening up the pond, do not go deep until you have a diving suit. The water is where a lot of the new danger lives, and it does not care that you just started.
