Face the Unknown has dropped and the Illuminate are pushing onto planets they had not touched before, new enemy types in tow. If you have been sticking to bugs and bots, the squid front plays differently, and a loadout that carried you through a Terminid blitz can leave you badly exposed here. A few things worth sorting before you dive.

Respect the swarm, then the specialists

Illuminate fights swing between two problems: waves of Voteless closing the distance, and a handful of tougher targets picking you apart from range. That split is the whole reason loadout choice matters more against them. A flamethrower is still one of the cleaner answers to the Voteless. It spreads across a group and forces them into a bleed-out, which buys you the space to deal with the dangerous stuff behind them.

Know where to shoot the Overseers

Overseers are the ones that will actually kill you. Aim for the chest. Sustained fire breaks the chest armour and opens up the soft flesh underneath, so commit to the target rather than chipping at it. Summoners are a priority kill for the obvious reason: leave one up and you are fighting its reinforcements instead of it.

Don't get caught alone

The single biggest mistake on the Illuminate front is drifting apart from your squad. Separated players are easy pickings, and the new enemies punish it harder than the older factions did. Stick together, share cover, and when an Exostorm ramps up, get out of the open and wait it out rather than pushing through it.

Some of this is still being figured out

Arrowhead has teased new units for this update, including a tall, long-armed elite and a floating scout that looks a lot like the old Observer from the first game. Exactly how everyone settles on fighting those is the sort of thing that gets worked out in the first week of play, so treat early advice as a starting point, not gospel. Bring flexibility. That is the real tip.
