Hell Let Loose is trading Normandy hedgerows for jungle and paddy fields. Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, the standalone follow-up from Expression Games and Team17, is out August 13 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the standout change isn't the war it's set in.

It's crossplay. For the first time in the franchise's history, PC and console players share the same servers at launch. For a game built entirely around 50v50 coordination, a bigger, unified player pool isn't a nice-to-have - it's the thing that keeps matches full and squads staffed once the launch rush fades.

What it is

Same DNA as before: two teams of 50, real-frontline logistics, and a pace that punishes anyone treating it like a run-and-gun shooter. The Vietnam setting brings the obvious shift in weapons and terrain - dense cover, worse sightlines, and a jungle that hides people until they're on top of you. How much the era changes the moment-to-moment feel, rather than just the skin on it, is the thing to watch.

The launch state question

Vietnam was meant to land back on June 18. Team17 pushed it to August 13, saying it wanted more time to get it right. That's usually a good sign, but a delayed milsim still has to prove its netcode and servers hold up when 100 people pile onto one map. Crossplay makes that promise bigger and the failure mode uglier. Worth a day or two of watching before you commit, if you got burned by a rough shooter launch recently.

If the servers behave, this is an easy recommendation for anyone who's ever wanted a shooter that rewards patience and teamwork over reflexes. If they don't, you'll know within about an hour of your first match.
