Well, that's the guessing done. Rockstar posted to its Newswire today with the words fans have been refreshing for over a year: a proper new look at Grand Theft Auto VI, with a date attached. "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" arrives Thursday, August 27. This is the official word, straight from Rockstar, and it lands the day after tomorrow's Take-Two earnings call that everyone had circled.
The catch: Netflix gets it first
Here's the part that'll raise eyebrows. The Extended Look premieres on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET on August 27. It only reaches Rockstar's own YouTube channel and the official GTA VI site (rockstargames.com/VI) later that evening, which multiple outlets, including Forbes, put at 9 p.m. ET, a six-hour head start for Netflix. So the biggest gaming reveal in years is, for one afternoon, a streaming exclusive. Make of that what you will.
What Rockstar actually said, and didn't
Read the wording. It's an "Extended Look," not "Trailer 3." Rockstar hasn't said whether this is gameplay, more of the cinematic sizzle from the first two trailers, or a mix, and it hasn't given a runtime. So temper the "first real gameplay" hopes until we see it; that's a fan expectation, not a Rockstar promise. What is confirmed: the game itself is still on for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC date, still.
The honest read
After the longest trailer drought in recent memory, any official date is a relief, and an "extended" look genuinely suggests more than a 90-second tease. That's the good news. The Netflix-first arrangement is the odd bit: a six-hour paywall-ish window on a free marketing reveal is a strange flex, even if it's only six hours. If you don't do Netflix, you're not missing much beyond bragging rights and a head start on the reaction videos. Set an alarm for the evening of the 27th and you'll be fine.
