Grounded 2 has been an Xbox and PC thing since it slipped into early access in July 2025. That changes on August 11, when it turns up on PS5 for the first time, and it is not arriving quietly. The same day brings Into the Abyss, the biggest update the game has had since it launched.
Obsidian's Chris Parker put it plainly to GamesRadar: "Launching on PS5 effectively makes this our second launch." That is the right way to think about it. New platform, new players, and a big new area all at once.
What Into the Abyss adds
The update opens up the pond in Brookhollow Park, which means the game finally goes underwater in a serious way. You get diving suits that stretch how long you can stay under, access to depths that were off-limits before, and an amphibious enemy called the Toe-biter that will follow you out of the water and onto dry land. Koi and diving bell spiders are down there too, so the pond is not a safe holiday.
If you already own Grounded 2 or play it through Game Pass, the update is free, and it rolls out across every platform at the same time. No one is left waiting on the new stuff.
Worth remembering
This is still early access, not a finished 1.0. Obsidian has a roadmap and the game has come on nicely over the past year, but if you are jumping in on PS5 expecting a fully polished release, temper that a little. What you are getting is a good survival game that is still being built, plus its most ambitious area yet. For a lot of people that is more than enough reason to shrink down and get bitten.
