The Gears of War: E-Day beta is up now on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Early access runs August 6-10 for pre-orders and Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, then it opens to everyone from August 13-17. No PS5 this time. It's Xbox and PC only.
If you're jumping in, here's what actually pays off, whether you're here for Horde Siege now or waiting on Versus in the second weekend.
Get the movement into your hands
Gears lives and dies on cover. Drill the slide-into-cover chain until it's muscle memory. Tapping to snap from one wall to the next is how you cross open ground without getting shredded, and standing still in the open is how you feed the other team kills.
Learn the Active Reload window
When you reload, a marker sweeps across a bar. Hit the button in the small sweet spot and you get a faster reload plus a damage boost; miss it into the wrong zone and you jam the gun for longer. For that half-second, watch the marker, not the firefight. It's the biggest damage upgrade you get for free.
Treat Horde Siege as a team game
Horde Siege is the PvE mode in early access, and it isn't a lone-hero mode. Build near the objective, share the fabricator load, and cover separate lanes instead of all piling into one choke. The players calling out enemy spawns win rounds; the lone wolves spend them getting downed and revived.
None of this is flashy, but it's the stuff that carries straight into the full game at launch. Treat the beta as free practice, not just a demo.
