Microsoft has laid out the first wave of Game Pass for September, and it's a wave that gives with one hand and takes back with the other. Seven games land across the first two weeks, and roughly a dozen leave before the month's half over.
What's coming in
Per Insider Gaming, here's the wave 1 lineup and dates:
Shelldiver (September 1), SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed (September 3), Dice a Million (September 4), Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (September 8), The Royal Writ and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage (both September 10), and RuneScape: Dragonwilds (September 15).
Black Ops Cold War is the headline, and it's the one that'll pull the numbers. It's a back-catalogue add rather than anything new, mind, so temper it: this is a good month to finally play a Call of Duty campaign you skipped, not a month of shiny day-one AAA. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is the quiet pick I'd flag for anyone who misses a proper fighting game.
And what's going out
Here's where it bites. Pure Xbox counts eleven titles leaving in early September, with the big cull landing on the 15th. Cyberpunk 2077 is the headline departure, and it's joined by Frostpunk 2, Dead Cells and Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, among others. NBA 2K26 slips out earlier, on the 6th.
If you've had Night City on your list for a while, this is your two-week warning. That's the Game Pass deal in a nutshell: the library is never quite the library you remember from last month.
