Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation — the third and final chapter of the remake trilogy — is getting a "new look" at Gamescom's Opening Night Live on August 25. Director Naoki Hamaguchi is presenting the segment himself, which usually means they are showing something they are proud of rather than a ten-second sizzle reel.
The detail that jumps out isn't the trailer, though. It's the platforms.
No more waiting for the PC port
Revelation is set to launch simultaneously across all platforms — PS5, Xbox Series X and S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 — in a Spring 2027 window. That is a real shift. Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth both did the timed-PlayStation-exclusive dance, leaving everyone else to wait the better part of a year (or two) for a port. Getting the finale everywhere at once, day one, is the version of events players have been asking for since 2020.
The Switch 2 inclusion is the eyebrow-raiser. This is a big, technically demanding series, and getting it running on Nintendo hardware at the same time as the beefier consoles is not nothing. Whether it holds up visually is a question for the show, not for a press release.
Keep the expectations honest
Worth remembering what "new look" and "Spring 2027" actually are. One is a trailer, not a firm release date. The other is a window, and Square Enix windows have a habit of drifting rightward when the game is this size. A simultaneous multi-platform launch is also exactly the kind of promise that quietly becomes "PS5 and PC first, Switch 2 later" if the port isn't ready in time.
Still, as a statement of intent, it's a good one. We'll know a lot more when Hamaguchi takes the stage — Opening Night Live kicks off Gamescom week on August 25.
