Square Enix used State of Play on September 3 to close the loop on a project it started in 2020. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third and final chapter of the remade FF7, is set for April 8, 2027 on PS5, and there was an extended look to go with the date.
This is the payoff. Remake landed in 2020 and Rebirth followed, each reworking a slice of the 1997 original into its own full-sized game. Revelation is the part that has to actually finish the story, and after seven years of waiting, a lot of people have a strong opinion about how it should. That is a heavy thing to hang a launch on.
What's confirmed, and what isn't
The date and the platform are the solid bits: April 8, 2027, on PS5. Square did not get into the weeds on how much it will lean on the changes the previous two games made to the source material, and that is the part worth keeping an eye on. The remake project has never been a straight retelling, so 'faithful ending' and 'the ending' are not necessarily the same thing here.
Still, it is a date, and it is not that far off by the standards of this series. For anyone who has been in since 2020, the finish line is finally on the calendar.
