Here's the bit that got buried under the Switch 2 headlines: the new content in Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition isn't locked to Nintendo's console. When Tarnished Edition lands on Switch 2 on August 28, the same day sees the Tarnished Pack roll out to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC. So if you already own the game elsewhere, you're not being left out.
What the pack actually adds
Two new starting classes headline it. The Heavy Knight is the tanky one, bulky steel armour, an oversized scimitar, and a stat spread that leans into raw survivability. The Idus Knight goes the other way: light armour, quick blade, and it starts with the Milady light greatsword, so you can drop into that fast, flowing playstyle from the very first step out of the cave. There are extra weapons and some Torrent skin customisations in there too.
Neither class is essential, and that's fine, they're a nice reason to roll a new character rather than a must-buy. The Idus Knight is the one I'd point newer players at if they want combat that rewards moving.
The Switch 2 version
Tarnished Edition on Switch 2 bundles the base game with Shadow of the Erdtree and the two classes at 79.99 dollars. It's the version that took the long road here, delayed out of 2025 after that rough Gamescom demo where the framerate sagged. FromSoftware went back for performance work, and the target now is a stable 30fps rather than the 15fps disaster people saw. Whether it holds that on handheld is the thing to check once reviews land closer to the date.
