Remedy has confirmed Control Resonant launches worldwide on September 24, on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. If you loved the first game's telekinetic gunplay, go in with your eyes open, because the sequel is a different beast.
Different hero, bigger stage
Jesse Faden, the first game's protagonist, has gone missing. You play as her brother Dylan, long imprisoned and now pushed into the role of the city's last line. And it is a city this time. Rather than working through the one shifting government building of the original, you're fighting the reality-warping Hiss across a version of New York, which sounds a lot more open-ended than the Oldest House ever was.
The combat has genuinely changed
This is the headline. The first Control was a third-person shooter with powers stitched around it. Resonant swings hard toward melee, fast, chain-heavy action that outlets have compared to Devil May Cry, built around a shapeshifting weapon called the Aberrant, movement, and stringing abilities together through a vertical space. It's an action RPG lean, not a light touch-up.
Where the hands-on impressions landed
Previews have been out since the summer, and the tone was cautiously keen rather than blown away. Game Informer's session covered the opening hours, the first boss and a larger explorable area; the recurring note was that the new combat feels good but people wanted to see how it holds over a full game. That's the fair question for any big genre pivot, and September 24 is when we find out.
If you're a first-game purist, the shift might sting. If you just wanted more of Remedy being weird, this looks like exactly that, pointed in a new direction.
