Beast of Reincarnation is out today, and if you have come to it expecting a dodge-roll soulslike, it will punish that assumption fast. The combat has its own rhythm, and the tutorials do not hammer it home. Here are five things worth internalising before the first proper boss, a Nushi, turns you into fertiliser.

1. Parry first, dodge second

Dodging is for repositioning, not survival. It buys you room and a better angle, but it does not drive the fight forward. Parrying does. Every clean parry fills an enemy's Down Gauge, and a full gauge is your opening for a lethal hit. Treat the dodge as footwork and the parry as your actual weapon.

2. Spend your Blade Arts, don't hoard them

Successful parries also charge Emma's Blade Arts gauge, bottom-centre of the screen. These are big-damage skills, and the instinct to save them for a rainy day is wrong here, they refill from doing the thing you are already doing. Use them, then earn them back.

3. You cannot ignore the dog

Koo is not a pet-the-dog cutscene, he is half your kit. His Bloom Arts pile on stagger far quicker than Emma manages alone, and you get more of them by beating Nushi bosses. Yes, you are managing his commands through a real-time menu while also parrying, and yes, that feels like too much at first. It stops feeling crowded once you accept the fights are built around both of you.

4. The three speeds are one system

Combat slides between full-speed action, the enemy-slowing Overdrive, and Koo's near-turn-based commands. Reviewers kept hitting the same wall: it feels overwhelming until you realise those are not three separate mechanics fighting for your attention, they are one loop. Lean into the slow beats to line up Koo, then punish in real time.

5. Pet the dog, genuinely

Petting Koo raises your rapport with him, which opens up more down the line. So the correct strategy and the nice thing to do are, for once, the same thing. For the deeper stuff, Game8 and Xbox Wire both have solid starter guides once you have the basics down.
