For a few days in July, the Game Pass headline was a good one: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, the genuinely excellent remaster, was coming to the service on July 21. Then it wasn't. Xbox pulled it before it ever went live, and the way they did it tells you plenty.
A one-line goodbye
There was no announcement, no apology, just an edit. A small note appeared on the Xbox Wire post: "We've removed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 from the list of titles coming soon to Game Pass." No reason given. If you'd already pencilled in a weekend of two-minute runs and pro combos, tough.
Why it probably happened
Microsoft hasn't explained it, but the likeliest culprit is the least surprising one: licensing. That remaster is stitched together from music rights and brand deals that predate Xbox owning the whole thing, and those agreements don't automatically stretch to cover a Game Pass release. TrueAchievements and others landed on the same read. When a game appears and disappears this fast, it's almost always a contract, not a bug.
It's a small thing in the scheme of a rough year for Xbox, but it's an annoying one. The game's still there to buy. It just won't be turning up "free" with your subscription, and nobody's going to put in writing exactly why.
