Rayman Legends Retold is out. Ubisoft's remake of the much-loved 2013 platformer landed October 1 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC and Ubisoft+, and it's a bit more ambitious than the usual remaster.
Going by Ubisoft's own announcement and coverage from TheXboxHub and Pure Xbox, the original's hand-drawn 2D art has been rebuilt in 3D, with fully voiced cinematics and a new story wrapped around the levels. There's an all-new sixth realm on top of the existing ones, a dragon-riding stage, a "Trial Cave" challenge mode, and four new music levels. If you played the 2013 game, the music stages were the best bits, so more of those is a good sign.
What's in the box
Kung Foot, the daft football mini-game, is back with better controls, power-ups and custom rules. Every edition also includes Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition, which is a genuinely generous bundle rather than a token extra. The soundtrack mixes the original themes with new work from Christophe Heral and Grant Kirkhope, and Kirkhope's involvement alone is worth a raised eyebrow of interest.
It supports solo play and up to four-player local co-op, which is how Legends was always best played. Grab three people on a sofa and it still holds up.
Worth it?
The honest answer is wait for the verdict on how the 3D rebuild handles. Legends' 2D art was close to flawless, and "we redid it in 3D" is the kind of sentence that can go either way. The new content and the Origins bundle make a strong case on paper. Whether the platforming feels as sharp in the new visuals is the thing to watch, and we'll update once there's a clearer read on reception.
