Overwatch's Season 5, "A Grim Doctrine", went live on October 6. Headline additions: a new Support hero, a new Escort map, plus the usual seasonal bundle of limited-time events, a collaboration, and cosmetics. That's the stuff the trailer sells you.

The part that matters more day to day is quieter. This season brings role changes and hero records, the kind of under-the-hood tuning that decides whether your main still feels like your main. If you've been coasting on one pick, read the patch notes before you queue ranked, because a role tweak can move a hero's whole job around.

Worth your time if you drifted off

A new Support is always the biggest pull for a lot of players, since the role tends to be short-staffed in queue. Whether this one sticks depends on how the kit holds up once people stop theory-crafting and start actually losing to it. Give it a week before you judge the balance.

The new Escort map is the easier win. More map variety is rarely a bad thing, and Escort is where Overwatch's push-and-hold rhythm reads clearest. As for the collab and the shop refresh: look at what's actually new to play, and treat the cosmetics as cosmetics. Blizzard posts the full breakdown on the official Overwatch patch notes page.
