Konami's new Castlevania, Belmont's Curse, is out on 15 October for PS5, Xbox Series and PC, with a Switch version following later this year. Reviews have started landing ahead of launch, and the early signs are good.
Famitsu's four-critic panel gave it 8/8/8/8, for 32 out of 40. That's a strong score from Japan's longest-running games magazine, and Nintendo Life has the first English-language review live as well, with the rest of the round-up expected over the next couple of days. One good score isn't a consensus, so hold off on calling it a classic until more verdicts are in, but a 32 from Famitsu is a reassuring start.
For what it's worth, it's a proper metroidvania, the style the 2D Castlevanias basically invented, not a spin-off or a mobile cash-in. There's a demo on the storefronts now if you want to try before you commit. The one wrinkle is the Switch release trailing the others rather than launching alongside them, so Switch players are waiting a little longer for the castle doors to open.
