Battlefield 6's next season has a date. Season 5 goes live on October 13, and it's a chunky one, with the headline additions being a trip to Las Vegas and, of all places, Area 51.

The maps

There are three new maps. Two are named so far: Vegas Strip and Area 51. The third is being held back for now. On top of that, two existing maps, Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City, are getting reworks rather than just a fresh lick of paint.

The season also brings a new operation, Operation High Roller, along with six new weapons and two new vehicles. As usual this lot is staggered across the season rather than dumped on day one, so don't expect every item unlocked the moment the servers flip.

The bit I'm most pleased about

A server browser. You'll be able to pick modes, maps and region yourself instead of leaving it to matchmaking, which is the sort of quietly important feature that should have been there from launch. Platoons are arriving too, for anyone who wants a proper named group to run with.

On the REDSEC side, there's a new mode called Rapid Royale, plus Ranked BR and an Open Series for the competitively minded. If battle royale is your thing, that's where your October is going.

One to flag: Season 4's Naval Warfare run ends when Season 5 starts, so claim any battle pass tiers you're sitting on before the 13th or they're gone. There's also chatter from a datamine about a Halloween event with a Dead Space flavour, but EA hasn't confirmed that, so park it as a maybe. Full patch notes are expected later in the week, and that's when we'll see the balance changes properly.
