Here's one from the "wait, that game?" pile. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, Panache Digital Games' prehistoric survival sim from 2019, is coming to PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2 on December 8, published by Fictions. It's billed as rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5.
If you owned it on PC, the good news is you're not being asked to buy it twice. Existing owners get a free upgrade to the new versions, and the PC build gets a free update adding documentary-style narration, a proper photo mode, and quality-of-life tweaks. The game first turned up on Steam and the Epic Games Store back in 2019; this console run also puts it on the Microsoft Store.
Worth remembering what it actually is
Ancestors was divisive, and it's fair to go in knowing that. It drops you in as an early hominid and explains almost nothing on purpose. You learn by poking at the world, often by dying to it, slowly expanding what your clan understands across generations. For some people that hands-off, figure-it-out-yourself loop was the whole appeal. For others it was a brick wall with no mortar.
A UE5 pass and some narration might soften that first hour, which was always the hump. If it does, this is a genuinely strange, ambitious game getting a second shot at an audience. December 8 is the day.
